"As to our young friend Alfred Fry, what I had principally in view was his eventually succeeding my present amanuensis, whose health seemed at that time to be in a very precarious state.
"It is now however to such a degree confirmed, that as Mr. Alfred's connection with the so highly respectable firm in question does not admit (it seems) of casual visits elsewhere, the unavoidable result is that I must give up the pleasure and benefit I had flattered myself with, from his company and assistance."
