BENTON SPRUANCE
Arrangement for Drums.

Color lithograph printed in greenish tan and black on cream wove paper, 1941. 239x373 mm; 9 3/8x14 5/8 inches, full margins. Edition of 30. Signed, titled and incribed "Ed 30" in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression of this extremely scarce lithograph. According to Fine/Looney, "The forties was a period of extraordinary transition in Spruance's work. The war and its aftermath, as well as Spruance's growing maturity as an artist, were among the reasons for the substantial changes that occurred. The current work and American Pattern--Barn, 1940, are among the top singular images that Spruance created during this transition. Fine/Looney 191.
