Additional Details

"I used photographs in making a painting only once. That was in making a portrait of Lincoln. I used several of them and made a small sculpture in plasteline from which I did the work."
In 1953, Benton executed a portrait of Lincoln in ink wash, graphite and gouache entitled "Young Abe Lincoln," which was reproduced as the frontispiece of Eifert's Three Rivers South, 1953.
