The Carillon Tower in Richmond's Byrd Park was constructed as a memorial to the Virginians who lost their lives fighting in the First World War. A monument and a musical instrument, the tower contained sixty-six bells that could be played via a series of baton-like keys and foot pedals situated in a cabin below the bells.
