With--a portrait of the artist and Burrough's daughter, Gayle, about eight-years-old, on the verso. He married Burroughs in 1939, and they later divorced.

Born in Sedalia, MI, Bernard Goss is a Chicago-area artist who was active during the WPA. He was a member of the important Federal Art Project-funded South Side Community Art Center, whose fellow alumni included Charles White, George Neal, Eldzier Cortor, Gordon Parks, Archibald Motley and Margaret Burroughs.
