BERNARD LAMOTTE. Contest submission sketchbook for The Limited Editions Club edition of Swann's Way by Marcel Proust. Over 140 preparatory sketches of characters, street scenes, interiors, etc., variously in color, charcoal, etc.; many highly finished. Bound in black leatherette sketchbook. Presented to André Maurois by Lamotte on the occasion of a Lamotte exhibition at the Bernheim Gallery in April 1950. The book was published by the press in 1954.
Accompanied by the exhibition catalogue A La Recherche de Marcel Proust par Bernard Lamotte which lists 29 paintings by Lamotte and contains an introduction by Andre Maurois. Also included is the Autograph Manuscript Signed of Maurois's introduction.
