Born in Brooklyn, New York, Lou Bernstein (1911- ) was associated with the Photo League, a group of concerned photographers dedicated to promoting photography in the service of social change. Bernstein joined the League in 1940 and remained a member until it disbanded, in 1951. His work was included in many exhibitions, including "The Family of Man," and in a retrospective at the International Center of Photography.
