Additional Details

scarce first edition in marathi, translated by Sadasiva Kasinatha Chhatre; the second volume was published in 1833. Berquin's collection of moral tales for young people first appeared in periodical form in 1782-83 as L'Ami des Enfants and in 1783-84 in English translation as The Children's Friend. This edition is an early example of lithographic printing in Bombay, which was introduced there in the mid-1820s. OCLC locates only a copy of Volume 1 at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, and a complete set at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris; COPAC also notes a SOAS copy of Volume 2; no copy recorded in ABPC or RHB.
