Thomas began his career as a cartoonist, contributing hundreds of caricatures to such London-based periodicals as Punch and London Opinion. During World War I he designed several posters for the war effort. Here in his trademark style, he emphasizes travelling by train through an illustration of some of the perils of travelling by foot.
