Jeune femme au repos.

Drypoint on heavy cream wove paper, 1889. 75x113 mm; 3x4 1/2 inches, wide margins. First state (of 3), before the cancellation and reworking of the plate. With the artist's initials ink stamp (Lugt 388b, lower left recto) and numbered 11/25 in pencil, lower right. A superb, richly-inked and early impression with strong, velvety burr and crisp plate edges.

Johnston cites similar impressions, from this early, pre-cancellation edition of 25, in several public collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the British Museum, London, The Albertina, Graphische Sammlung, Vienna and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

We have not found another similar impression at auction in the past 30 years. Johnston 7.
