Folio, 347x220 mm, contemporary Parisian tan calf bound for Marcus Fugger, covers panelled in blind with gilt fleurons in corners and gilt Fugger device (hand holding floral spray surmounted by bird) in center, expertly rebacked retaining original spine with single gilt cinquefoil in compartments and manuscript vellum lettering piece at top, circular stain on front cover; contents clean. from the library of marcus fugger, bound for him, with his signature on the front pastedown, passing by marriage and descent to the Öttingen-Wallerstein family, with their stamp on the title. A prominent member of the great Augsburg banking family, Fugger (1529-97) formed a vast collection of books in wide-ranging fields. This volume is one of a substantial group in bindings in a simple style commissioned by Fugger from an unidentified Parisian workshop in the 1550s.
