"Matthew" version; one of several variants of this edition distinguishable by the title and colophon, both of which are absent here. The version first published in 1537 under the pseudonym Thomas Matthew, essentially Tyndale's translation as edited by John Rogers, "which welds together the best work of Tyndale and Coverdale, is generally considered to be the real primary version of our English Bible" (Herbert). Herbert 92.
