Additional Details

One of the most beautiful of the 17th century world mappings. When Joan Blaeu published his 11 volume Atlas Maior in 1662 he replaced the world map used by the Blaeu clan since 1630. Though the map is highly derivative from Visscher, its border elements with the four seasons at the bottom and celestial elements at the top give it an irresistable charm. Shirley 428.
