Additional Details

An uncommon projection viewing the earth from the north and south poles; the spandrel decoration is lovely, illustrating celestial elements and depictions of Adam and Eve. The plate was prepared by Blaeu in 1672, but due to the fire at the family's warehouse that year and his death the following year, it apparently was never published. Valck acquired the plate in 1694, obscured Blaeu's name, replaced it with his own, and put the map into circulation shortly after. Shirley 459.
