BOB NOORDA (1927-2010) PER L'INVERNO IL PNEUMATICO / PIRELLI. 1953.
39x26 3/4 inches, 99x68 cm. Riccordi, Milan.
Condition A- / B+: minor repaired tears at edges; light creases and abrasions in margins and image.
Dutch-born and educated, Bob Noorda moved to Milan and shortly after became the art director for Pirelli. In Milan he met Massimo Vignelli with whom he opened an international design studio, Unimark. He is perhaps most famous for his 1966 redesigning of the New York Subway signage, making him the man responsible for the colored circles with numbers denoting specific lines that commuters still see to this day. This poster for Pirelli is a classic example of post-war Italian modernist design.
