Folio, 282x197 mm, contemporary 1/4 blind-tooled leather over wooden boards, lacking catches and clasps, with vellum leaves from a 12th-century Latin liturgical manuscript as endleaves; several small wormholes and light dampstain in blank lower margin of opening leaves, otherwise a clean, wide-margined copy. Early stamp of the Franciscan monastery at Stroncone, Umbria, on a2r. (Venice: Reynaldus de Novimagio and Theodorus de Reynsburch, 1477)

Additional Details

One of 2 15th-century editions, both printed the same year, their priority undetermined. This is the first edited by the English theologian and philosopher Thomas Penketh (d. 1487), who was known in particular for producing the first scholarly editions of the principal works of Duns Scotus (see lot 18).
