Map originally appeared in 1528 in Libro di Benedetto Bordone. It represents the earliest printed map devoted entirely to Japan. The map was reissued in 1547 and is represented by the present example. It was published in Isolario di Benedetto Bordone. A map of Java is on the leaf verso. Walter 5; Cortazzi, pl. 13.
