inscribed by george w. melville to henry grier bryant on the half-title. Melville, who authored the preface to this work, travelled to the Arctic three times during his naval career, most notably on the Jeanette and Greely Relief expeditions. Bryant, to whom he has inscribed the book, was himself an Arctic explorer who accompanied the Peary Relief Expedition. Borup's book is an "account of the Peary Expedition, 1908-1909, by its youngest American member"--Arctic Bibliography 2022.
