Bossuit's work as described in the introductory text of the book "gave such proofs of his art, to the wonder & admiration of all that saw it, that he by his ingenious & free manner of managing the hard ivory, could work upon it as if it was wax & to which he gave such a softness that few of the most ingenious of that art could comprehend how, or in what manner, it was done."
