BRAHMS, JOHANNES. Autograph Letter Signed, "J. Brahms," to an unnamed recipient ("Esteemed Sir"), in German, requesting that his participation in the concert scheduled for February 4th be delayed until the 18th of that month. 2 pages, 8vo, written on the recto and verso of a single sheet; inlaid, tiny hole at upper left of first page repaired with paper verso, horizontal folds, faint bleed-through throughout, docketing at upper left of first page written vertically in unknown hand. ". . . May I be allowed to assist as artist at your concert on February 18, instead of February 4? My trip at the end of January to Holland has quite some consequences; . . . I . . . trust that I will not cause you too great a trouble. . . ."
On February 18, 1876, in Frankfurt, as part of a Museum Concert organized by the Frankfurter Museumsgesellschaft, Brahms performed his Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor and conducted Haydn's Variations on a Theme.
