Additional Details

Brandt's series "Across the Ravaged Land" is the third portion of his trilogy documenting endangered and vanishing wildlife of East Africa. Intimate and tender while also revealing the ravages wrought by man, Brandt describes his portraits of animals as an "elegy," and indeed each image is filled both with love, admiration, a natural majesty, and also tinged with poignancy. Brandt only shoots medium-format black and white film on a Pentax 67II without zoom or telephoto lenses (he uses only two fixed lenses).
