[37] (of [38]) leaves, including engraved title; lacks the dedication leaf. 4to, 215x158 mm, early 19th-century boards, spine chipped at top and repaired, some spotting on covers; stains on B3-C2, marginal soiling and dampstains on the engraved matter, outer margin of title cropped, map trimmed close slightly entering image on right with repaired clean tears, reinforcement along fore edge, and old scrawls on verso, Empire of Rome plate trimmed to border and mounted. Second edition of a tract originally published circa 1588-90 on the literal and chronological truth of the Bible, with illustrations of visions in the books of Daniel and Revelation. Broughton (1549–1612) was a Puritan controversialist and one of the leading English Hebraists of his time. In this copy the plate of Nebuchadnezzar's Dream and the world map are in the second state.
