Additional Details

first edition of brown's first book, inscribed and signed by him in the year of publication, in the rare dust jacket. Brown earned degrees at Williams and Harvard and taught at Virginia Seminary and College and at Howard University before publishing Southern Road, his first book. Addressing the issues of race in America in a direct, unsentimental style, it was well-received by critics and earned him an important place in the artistic tradition of the Harlem Renaissance.
