Additional Details

". . . [M]any thanks for your cordial words about Odysseus. Every expression of true feeling in life and in art touches one beneficently; consequently your letter pleases me . . . .
"I am very much pleased that you think the translation a good one. After the sad experience I had with Schön Ellen, extra care was necessary.
"Mrs. Macfarren, who was recommended by both Joachim and Mrs. Schumann, has done all that could be expected . . . . I have repeatedly drawn Cranz's attention to the fact that Schön Ellen could not possibly succeed in England as long as he did not put out a new edition in a good English translation . . . .
"I thankfully welcome your assurance of your willingness to actively push Odysseus in England, and . . . to procure for me the personal acquaintance of some of the English artists on the occasion of the Schumann celebration here. . . ."
