"The single most determinant element in Norwegian culture in the years leading up to the First World War was the fact that Norway had obtained its independence from Sweden in 1905. That brought a constant emphasis on national culture, which culminated in the Anniversary Exhibition in Kristiania in 1914, the centenary of the Constitution. It was both an industrial exhibition and a genuine cultural event, with exhibitions, choral festivals and other concerts and a number of compositions were written for the occassion" (Ludvig Irgens-Jensen, by Arvid O. Vollsnes, Toccata Press, 2014, p. 15). In 1925, the city became known as Oslo. Larsson was a prominent Norwegian painter and poster designer. With "a pronounced sense of composition and the ornamental. His form language was strong, [and] . . . he gradually developed in a lyrical direction" (Norwegian Artist Encyclopedia, https://nkl.snl.no/Brynjulf_Larsson). This is the rare English language version; we could find no other copies (in any language) at auction.
