Babitz, Eve (1943-2021)
Sex and Rage, Signed First Edition.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1979.

First edition, octavo, signed by Babitz in ink on the front free flyleaf; bound in black publisher's cloth-backed boards, spine lettered in silver; with the pictorial dust jacket unclipped (New Yorker article clipping pasted to front pastedown; light toning to jacket flaps, minor stains to lower panel); 7 1/2 x 4 5/8 in.

A prominent, glowing figure of the Los Angeles scene, Eve Babitz is known for her pointed works that captured the cultural zeitgeist of the city's art and literary movements. Her own literary legacy is often overshadowed by her associations and romantic relationships with various famous men such as Steve Martin, Jim Morrison, Harrison Ford and Paul Ruscha. Her biographer, Lili Anolik, observed that "passing herself off as a groupie allowed Eve to infiltrate, edge into territory from which she'd otherwise have been barred," ultimately yielding revelatory works with a timeless impact on L.A. subculture.
