Baker, Josephine (1906-1975)
Les Revues de Folies Bergère.

Paris: Paris Art Editions, 1923-1926.

Six large quarto-format souvenir programs bound in one volume, featuring numerous double-page full-color spreads of the exuberant Grand Finale set pieces, full color photographs of the folies, including many of Josephine Baker, and countless black-and-white photographs from the year's photoshoots and performances; each year's original card wrappers printed with gold featuring Agnès Souret, Suzy Beryl, Chrysis, Josephine Baker, Lila Nicolska and the Dodge Twins preserved; bound in full burgundy leatherette with embossed pigskin texture lettered in gilt, with marbled gold silk endleaves (occasional minor creases; joints rubbed); 12 x 9 ¼.

Josephine Baker is considered one of the most famous performers to grace the stage of the Folies Bergère. Her sensational appearance in the 1927 revue where she performed clad only in a flimsy skirt made of artificial bananas and a beaded necklace, became one of the most iconic images to symbolize the sparkling "folly" of the Jazz Age and Roaring Twenties.
