Barney, Tina (b. 1945) & Tina Howe (1937-2023)
Swimming.

New York: The Library Fellows of the Whitney Museum of American Art, 1991.

Limited edition, oblong folio; one of 175 copies, signed by Barney and playwright Howe in pencil on the colophon; title printed in blue and black; text leaves printed on gray BFK Rives paper; with 9 of Barney's vivid chromogenic photograph prints mounted on leaves of white BFK Rives; bound in three-quarter turquoise morocco over dark blue cloth, gilt-lettered spine, endpapers designed by Sage Reynolds (spine sunned); housed in the original publisher's blue cloth slipcase; 13 x 16 1/2 in.

The second installment in the Whitney Museum's Artists and Writers Series, Swimming, features a play written by Howe set on a beach along the Atlantic coast at the height of summer. Paired with Barney's evocative photographs, the present work is a rich reminder of sun-drenched August days spent on sandy shores with friends and family, the cool ocean water lapping gently nearby.
