Bartlett's serial use of the simplified house form symbolizes the constraints on self-expression put on women by society, domesticity, and other endemic and sometimes invisible cultural systems. She grew up in Long Beach, California and attended Mills College in Oakland and Yale School of Art and Architecture. An experimental artist, Bartlett specialized in installations and three-dimensional work, often using gridded systems and simple geometric forms inspired by Minimalism. Her work is featured in the collections of many important public collections.
