First edition, two octavo volumes, lavishly illustrated with wood engravings and lithographs after the author's original drawings, viz., I: folding frontispiece, thirty-four text wood engravings as called for (some full page), six full page lithographs, and one large folding map (mounted on fine linen or silk); II: fifty-eight text woodcuts, some full page, of the 56 called for (no illustrations at page 34 as called for in the publisher's plate list), ten full page lithographs (including the folding frontispiece), lacking the plate of Casas Grandes, River Gila, at page 274, but with a lithograph, Tuscon, Sonora at page 292 not called for; bound in uniform later half pebbled red morocco and textured red cloth boards, marbled endleaves, gilt spines, teg, 9 x 5 1/in.
