Beaumont, Francis (1584-1616) & John Fletcher (1579-1625)
The Knight of the Burning Pestle. Full of Mirth and Delight.

London: Printed by N[icholas] O[kes] for I. S[pencer?], 1635 [i.e. circa 1661].

Quarto, falsely dated third edition, with Beaumont's name spelled "Beamount" on title page, lacking preliminary blank A1; bound in full modern polished red morocco by Riviere & son; title page dusty; 7 x 5 1/8 in.

STC 1675a; Greg I 316 (c); Pforzheimer 49; ESTC S101209.

This play is a satire on chivalric romances similar to Cervantes's Don Quixote, and a parody of Heywood's The Four Prentices of London, and Dekker's The Shoemaker's Holiday. It also breaks the fourth wall and was most likely written for child actors working at Blackfriars Theatre.
