First American edition, ex libris Dr. James Moore Ball, with typed letter signed by Ball presenting the book to Boston physician and artist Dr. Harris Peyton Mosher in 1924; with Ball's bookplate inside front board; with book label of Civil War veteran surgeon and Willimantic, Connecticut Doctor T. Morton Hills (d. 1909) with Hills's signature on the explanation of plate IX, and a few other handwritten annotations in the text, including a slip tipped to the explanatory text of plate II identifying each of the numbered points indicated on the illustration; half-title and publisher's ads present; illustrated with nine engraved illustrations of the nerves after Bell's original drawings (plate leaves foxed, one folding plate with closed tear); bound in contemporary half red morocco, quite worn, front board detached, 10 3/4 x 8 1/2 in.
