The culmination of his illuminated works, Blake's Jerusalem is so magnificently colored and illustrated that it is a true delight to behold. However, Blake's final work is "not just a picture book to amuse an idle hour," but a final attempt to "present in poetic form the message, which he hoped would help others to resolve the mental conflicts he himself had suffered and so to pass on to others the spiritual freedom he had won." Blake's original unique copy was loaned to the Bibliothèque Nationale for two years so the publishers could photograph each page and produce this facsimile.
