Borjes (sometimes Borges) was born in Portugal and had his career in Spain as a veterinarian specializing in equine care. In this practical guide on the art of horse medicine, he describes a strong ointment of his own formulation composed of euphorbia, black hellebore, butter, oil, and wax which served as both disinfectant and protective dressing for wounds. Two related treatises are appended: Francisco de la Reyna's Arte de Herrar, and Juan de Vinuesa's Arte de Herrar Viejo.
