Business and Professional Women of Leadville [Colorado].
Leadville, CO: Excelsior Printing and Publishing Co., [1895].

Oblong octavo, [2], 46, [2] pages, illustrated with photogravure portraits; bound in publisher's blue paper printed wrappers, (front cover with small corner loss, following few pages folded), 6 x 9 in.

This delicate pamphlet contains detailed biographical sketches of forty Colorado women in business for themselves in Leadville at the time of publication. Their professions range from physician, inn keeper, dressmaker, milliner, teachers of elocution, dancing, and music, to Mrs. Lottie Lanphier, "Pioneer Hairdresser of Leadville." Even more interesting are the pictures painted of their lives. The vast majority are widows, a few are single; all are described in glowing terms. As noted on the front cover: "Equal Opportunity to both Sexes has Given Woman the Place to which She is Entitled by Virtue of Her Ability."

Rare at auction, two copies in Worldcat.
