"In 1929 Imperial Airways' route to Cairo and Baghdad was extended to Karachi in British India" (Artistry p. 18). Here, one of the aircraft used on that route, a De Haviland DH.66, fully illuminated by the sun, is pictured flying over a camel and its rider obscured in the shadows. The poster is a classic visual juxtaposition extolling the superiority of new technology, in which the Old World encounters a new age. Artistry p. 18.
