Additional Details

publisher's advance copy of Cain's (pseudonym of George Sims) first and only novel. A collection of short stories, Seven Slayers, appeared in 1946 and was the only other published book in his lifetime. Raymond Chandler called Fast One "some kind of high point in the ultra hard-boiled manner" and the book's concision and bleak unsentimentality set it apart from its contemporaries and has long been considered a groundbreaking work of its kind. "The toughest tough-guy and most brutal gangster story ever written." (Reilly, p. 135, 2nd ed.). An uncommon advance publisher's reading copy, even rarer in this condition.
