CAMILLE PISSARRO
Baigneuse aux oies.

Etching and drypoint printed in black on cream laid paper, 1895. 127x179 mm; 5 1/8x7 1/8 inches, full margins. Eleventh state (of 16). One of only 5 impressions in this state from a total of approximately 25 impressions in all 16 states. Inscribed "7e état no. 2" in pencil, lower left. A superb impression of this scarce etching.

While this is the most intensely-labored version, through sixteen states, Pissarro (1830-1903) revisited this subject of a nude bather and geese in another etching--with some impressions printed in colors--from circa 1895 (albeit with two bathers) as well as in lithographs from around 1896 and 1897 (Delteil 119, 161 and 180, respectively). Each of these relate to a drawing of the subject in sepia ink and wash now in the British Museum, London (donated by the artist's son Lucien). Delteil 115.
