CAMILLE PISSARRO
Château de la Roche Guyon.

Etching and aquatint printed in light brown and black on cream laid paper, 1880. 168x247 mm; 6 3/4x9 3/4 inches, full margins. One of only several known lifetime impressions (there was no posthumous edition). Signed in pencil, lower right. A brilliant, richly-inked impression of this exceedingly scarce etching, printed in two tones, with a light brown film of ink in the sky, and black inking throughout the plate, selectively-wiped on the side of the Château and along the hillside to create highlights.

Delteil cites only 2 known impressions, both signed and inscribed number 1 and 2, which Cailac also cites in his revision of the Delteil catalogue raisonné. There is another signed, not numbered, impression in the Pissarro prints collection at the Kupferstichkabinett, Kunsthalle, Bremen.

The current impression sold Kornfeld, Bern, June 1991, lot 878. Delteil 27.
