Lithograph printed in black on cream wove paper, circa 1896. 132x112 mm; 5 1/4x4 1/2 inches, full margins. One of approximately only 11 lifetime impressions. Signed, titled and inscribed "no. 4" in pencil, lower margin. A superb, dark impression of this extremely scarce lithograph, with strong contrasts.
This is one of several small lithographs representing groups of peasant women resting or working out-of-doors that Pissarro made in the late 1890s. In each of these intimate lithographic scenes he captured the sunlight falling across the figures, the verdant landscape and the billowing clouds in the sky, emulating his paintings from this late period. Delteil 165.
