CANDIDO ARAGONESE DE FARIA (1849-1911) CHAMONIX - MONT-BLANC / CACHAT'S - MAJESTIC. Circa 1910.
46 3/4x62 3/4 inches, 119x159 1/2 cm. Atelier Faria, Paris.
Condition A-: wrinkles and minor repaired tears in margins.
This majestic hotel was the subject of two posters by Faria; this image and a sister piece showing a nearly identical view in the winter time (see next lot). In this summer image, the gardens are in full bloom, international flags are flying from the top of the hotel and couples are strolling and getting ready to play tennis, surrounded by the splendor of the Alpine region. The building, which still exists, is no longer a hotel but the Chamonix Congress Hall. Voyage p. 109, Alpi 24, Hillion p. 198, Tennis p. 47.
