significant copy. signed by capote. the copy read by joanne carson at capote's funeral on August 28, 1984, three days after he died in her home. She marked the last paragraph for emphasis and penciled "Goodbye Truman" which she spoke aloud.
A letter of provenance dated 24 February 1992 from Ryan Cassidy (brother of David and Shaun Cassidy) states that he obtained the book from Carson.
George Plimpton's "Truman Capote" (1998) contains a photograph of Joanne Carson holding this book at the funeral and her recollection that on his last full day of life, Truman signed several copies of the book (this one included) for her to give to friends as Christmas presents.
