Holty (1900-1973) was a German-born abstract painter who studied with Hans Hofmann in Munich and was associated with artists such as Vaclav Vytlacil and Stuart Davis after he settled in the United States. He was leading member of the American Abstract Artists, a group formed in New York in 1936 to promote abstract art.
