CARLO VIVARELLI (1919-) FUR DAS ALTER. 1949.
50 1/4x35 3/4 inches. Institute Orell Fussli, Zurich.
Condition A-: creases and overpainting in margins.
After studying in Paris with Paul Colin, Vivarelli returned to Zurich where he co-founded the influential magazine Neue Grafik<> in 1958. Within the confines of the magazine layout he was able to demonstrate the potential of juxtaposing sans-serif Helvetica type face and objective photography in a strictly organized space. Fur das Alter<> is his most famous and spectacular creation, with the dramatic face lit from the bottom to emphasis the wrinkles, against a black background. A pure and efficient image. This is the German version.
