first edition of the author's first book. A Harper's Sealed Mystery, the gimmick whereby the reader could not see the concluding chapters without breaking the tissue paper seal. Booksellers would refund money to the timid reader who returned the book with the seal unbroken; unsurprisingly, these are uncommon. This copy with publisher's seal broken, otherwise the fragile tissue is entirely intact.
