Additional Details

limited edition of what is considered the most perfect printed facsimile of the famous Alice''s Adventures Underground manuscript.
The original manuscript was kept by Alice Liddell until sold at auction at Sotheby''s in 1928 for £15400 and described in the catalogue for that sale as "the most attractive literary manuscript ever offered for sale."
The purchaser was Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach who later sold it to the American collector Eldridge R. Johnson. In 1936 Johnson arranged for a collotype facsimile of the manuscript to be privately printed in a small print run for presentation to friends. The facsimile reproduces exactly the binding, endpapers and laid-paper of the manuscript. After Johnson''s death in 1944 the manuscript was once again sold at auction and purchased by Rosenbach, who presented it to the British Museum in 1948.
