Additional Details

In addition to drawing caricatures for friends and admirers, Caruso drew many for publication in La Follia di New York, an Italian-language newspaper published by his friend, Marziale Sisca. Caruso's drawings intended for publication often include faint pencil or blue pencil sketch lines below the inked line, as well as editor's notes and ink stamps in margins and on versos. Many of these caricatures were anthologized in Caricatures by Enrico Caruso (New York: La Follia di New York, 1908); the drawing in the present lot appears on page 58.
