CASTELLON, FEDERICO. Group of four sketchbooks comprising hundreds of pen-and-ink, pencil, wash, and watercolor drawings, including working sketches for books and paintings. Mostly 4to, 8x12 inches to 13x10 inches. (FC) Np, mostly 1950s-60s

Additional Details

Includes drawings featuring Castellon's more Expressionist phase of the 1950s. Some images are titled, a few are dated. Approximately 8 pages of one notebook is devoted to images for "The Story of Marco Polo" which was published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1954. Many pages contain images with color indications for oil paintings. Several of the images were likely created during the Castellons' move to Europe in 1961 as many bear that date and contain images of Parisian and Spanish locales. The group also includes a small notebook kept by Hilda Castellon with 6 sketches, most from a hospital room in Long Island City showing views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. Together, a charming collection reflecting the talent, travels and interests of the Castellons.
