first edition, first state, bearing cather's initials on front free endpaper, and, accomplished with a different pen, is the place and date - the same month and year as publication: "Red Cloud / Nebraska / June, 1913." First issue points include the dot following the "o" in "Co" on spine imprint appears to touch, and with "chince-bugs" on line 8, page 60. Signed copies of this, Cather's best known work, are scarce.
