According to Amsterdam's small, neighborhood Jordaan Museum, Jacobus Cornelis Schildmeijer opened up his coffee and tea business around 1925. Behind the building, he built a facility to roast his own coffee beans. The same stylized, Art Deco image appeared on the company's coffee bags (with the word "Koffie" at the top instead of the word "Thee").
